Inspirations are often the people, places, things, lighting or colors we notice when we least expect. Sometimes we paint what we find beautiful, other times it's what invokes a feeling such as peace, tranquility, fear, humor, irony or love. Realistic pieces are easier to understand because the viewer can immediately recognize the artist's subject. Abstract work requires the viewer to suspend reality and appreciate work from another vantage point-composition, color, contrast or design which may envoke a feeling, or stoke the imagination of the viewer.
Realistic and dramatic scenes below
Left: "Low Tide" is an 11x 14 acrylic inspired by the dramatic summer skies in Florida, and the changing tides along the coast. Boats are a fascinating & beautiful sight in our waterways rivers, marshland and marinas. We see boats anchored, moored, sailing, even partially sunken all along our coast. A lone boat evokes wonder about who left it, where are they, where did they come from. It can be a very peaceful sight on a beautiful calm day.
Right: "Evolution" is a 36x36 abstract acrylic painting inspired by reflections in water and colors in the sky. It further incorporates shapes and textures of sea-life and shells along the beach.
Note the contrast between the styles of these 2 paintings-each reflects a different personal mood.
